“Women, Wine and Talmud”
Theatre Ariel's world premiere of ”Women, Wine and Talmud” will usher you into a Zoom version of immersive theatre. You will be part of an interactive performance based on the layout of a page of Talmud. Just as the main Talmud text is centered on the page, surrounded by rabbinic commentaries and marginal notes, each scene in "Women, Wine and Talmud” will be centered on a moment in the life of Rachel, Yalta or Bruriah. After the actors perform each central scene/story, the audience will create surrounding commentary by responding to that story in moderated breakout groups. This experience will be repeated for each of the three women depicted. At the end there will be a few minutes to reflect on the work as a whole.
The only Zoom performance of ”Women, Wine and Talmud” will be Sun., May 15, 7pm EST, was conceived by Theatre Ariel's Artistic Director, Deborah Baer Mozes, and written by Hadar Galron. WW&T will acquaint you with these women — daughters, wives, sages — each of whom challenged what was expected of them. We invite you to take a sip of wine, and an introductory peek into the lives of Rachel, Mad Yalta and Bruriah.
Theatre Ariel is Pennsylvania's professional Jewish Theatre.
