About CTI

Shalom and welcome to Congregation Tifereth Israel.

Founded in 1897, we are the oldest continuously operating Synagogue on Long Island.

As a Conservative congregation, our aim is to enrich the lives of our members through Mitzvot and the joy of Jewish living, and to transmit Jewish values and traditions to the next generation. We provide spiritual, educational and cultural growth for our members and their families in a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Religious Services

l Egalitarian and participatory services provide both men and women equal opportunity for religious expression.

l Minyanim are held four mornings a week and on Monday evenings.

l Shabbat services are held on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, with a monthly Shabbat service being is led by one of our Hebrew School classes.

l High Holiday and Festival services.

Educational Opportunities

The highest quality educational programs are available to our members.

l We offer half- and full-day Jewish preschool for children age two through pre-kindergarten.

l Mommy and Me classes ease young children into the more structured educational environment.

l Our Hebrew School for elementary and middle school students meets twice a week, teaching Hebrew skills and Torah study, as well as featuring family holiday celebrations.

l Bar and Bat Mitzvah preparation are held for students on an individualized basis.

l Confirmation Classes not only extend our students' knowledge, but are aimed at helping them to maintain their Jewish identities.

l Our Adult Education department offers programs on spiritual topics as well as on Jewish culture, history, and current events. Sunday morning breakfasts with guest speakers are held throughout the year.

l The Wolpert Scholarship Fund awards a number of scholarships to students attaining higher education.

Social Activities

Our members participate in a wide variety of cultural and recreational activities including the following:

l Dinner Dance
l Casino Night

Our Mission Statement

It is our mission to enrich the lives of our members through prayer, learning, the performance of Mitzvot, and the joy of Jewish living, to support the State of Israel, and to transmit Jewish values and traditions to the next generation. We provide spiritual, educational and cultural growth for our members and their families in a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Established in 1897, Congregation Tifereth Israel is a small family conservative congregation serving Glen Cove and its surrounding communities. We aspire to grow into a medium sized congregation serving the greater North Shore area.

CTI subscribes to the principle of "Judaism without Borders" - we are an egalitarian, all inclusive congregation which serves its membership by respecting Jews of all backrounds, regardless of levels of observance, orientation or family structure: We welcome those who have found God, those who are searching for God, and those who just aren't sure. We are open to all Jews and their families, both on their journey and beginning their journey.

We wish to honor and maintain the tradition of being Long Island's oldest continuously operating Jewish congregation. CTI maintains a Conservative Judaic tradition and at the same time welcomes others by opening up new windows to Judaism.

Our commitment is to support everyone on their Jewish journey, no matter where they find themselves. We encourage all interested individuals to become integral participating members of our wonderfully warm progressive community and to take advantage of the varied programming we offer. We do so by anticipating the ideological and spiritual needs, both current and future, of our Congregation and the surrounding Jewish community at well.
